About Daniel Hancock, RN
Registered Nurse — Inpatient Diabetes Specialist Nurse — independent author supporting the next generation of UK nurses.
Welcome to The Student Nurse. My name is Daniel Hancock, and I have been nursing on the frontline for the past 8 years. I have worked primarily on a busy acute diabetes and endocrinology ward, living the fast-paced, high-acuity realities of NHS inpatient care. I now hold a dual role as a Registered Nurse and Inpatient Diabetes Specialist Nurse, deepening my clinical impact and supporting colleagues and students across the ward.
Teaching has always been what drives me. I built this site because students were asking for more than ward rounds and lectures could give — honest, grounded, real-world guidance. Every page, guide, and case study here comes from listening to what students actually told me they needed. Nothing was decided in isolation; it was shaped by you.
This site isn’t about textbook perfection. It shows nursing as it truly is — the good, the hard, and the unvarnished. No sugarcoating, no hiding the reality. Just what you need to know to walk onto any ward with your eyes open.
Your Learning, Your Way
The books and guides I write don’t just hand you answers. They help you build the confidence to find them yourself. My philosophy is straightforward: I give you the evidence base; you develop the clinical reasoning.
This is exactly why the Clinical Case Studies Hub exists. You don’t learn to think like a nurse by memorising paragraphs. You learn by stepping into the moment, weighing up what you see, and making decisions under pressure — just as you will on every shift.
Everything here is rooted in UK practice, NMC standards, and current national guidance. It’s written from the ward, for the ward.
Want a Topic Covered?
This site grows because students tell me what matters. If there’s a topic, procedure, or scenario you need to see, let me know.
